Pageant of the Master measures the cast – Orange County Register

Hundreds of people convinced they can hold the pose for the correct 90 seconds have turned up to be part of the upcoming Pageant of the Master contest “Wonderful World.”

The show employs two cast members of 150 who alternate each week. Volunteers, dressed in costumes, make-up and headgear, pose in works of art known as live paintings, or scenes. Measurements are very specific to each part depicted, and aside from the skill of standing still, are key to getting a specific part.

This year’s show opens July 7 and runs through September 3. Director Diane Challis Davis teamed up with longtime contest screenwriter Dan Dueling and showrunner Richard Doyle for the 26th season of the show. aunt.

Pose posing in the contest is popular in Orange County, and typically about 40% of the cast has been on the show before.

While everyone who auditions may not be a perfect fit for the artwork, there are behind-the-scenes roles such as volunteering with hair or makeup, or on stage assisting on a set. There is also the opportunity to be replaced.

The cast will be announced at the end of January and June at the latest. The competition rehearses one to three exercises per week.

Volunteer benefits include free tickets, a cast party in September, and credits for volunteer service hours for high school students.
