Six Flags Magic Mountain hires robot security guards that don’t look like RoboCop – Orange County Register
An artificial intelligence-controlled security robot called Shakespearean will soon patrol Six Flags Magic Mountain and surrounding parking lots in search of mockers and rule-breakers – but no one will be mistaken Roameo with RoboCop.
The new Roameo security robot will begin patrolling Magic Mountain next week, according to Six Flags officials.
Roameo will operate in the Magic Mountain parking lot during park hours and in the theme park after hours, according to Six Flags officials.

The 12-mph autonomous robot will serve as a portable version of Magic Mountain’s current fixed-circuit television security camera. Just like security cameras mounted on poles and buildings, Roameo will be able to identify trespassers in restricted areas of the Valencia theme park.
Roameo won’t respond directly to breaches, but the bot can notify its human counterparts of trespassers in secure areas.
Among Roameo’s capabilities: Identify amusement park visitors without masks. Roameo will not be used for COVID-19 health and safety mask compliance at Magic Mountain, according to Six Flags officials.
The bot’s 21-inch touchscreen can provide maps, timeouts, and other information. Magic Mountain could not confirm whether Roameo will offer ride timeouts and theme park maps as the new robot is still in beta.
The AI robot can jump onto curbs, climb hills in the rain, and identify vehicles, license plates, and people. With additional software, it can verify photo IDs, check body temperature, and even unlock doors.

The new Six Flags robot security guards will be powered by Michigan-based Robotic Assistive Equipment (RAD). Another Roameo will begin work at Six Flags Over Texas about a week after the first bot launches at Magic Mountain, according to RAD officials.
RAD is in talks with amusement park companies in Florida about adding Roameo bots, according to Orlando Sentinel. As reported by the Sentinel, Walt Disney World is not among the potential buyers.
A Roameo robotic security guard patrolled the World Series in Atlanta in October. RAD confirmed the sale of the Roameo bot to an unnamed California casino and a major Hollywood studio.
The stately robotic policeman — 6 feet, 6 inches tall and 750 pounds — is equipped with a camera, speaker, microphone, and touchscreen.
Roameo doesn’t look like half-robot, half-robot, patrolling the crime-ridden Detroit streets in the 1987 movie “RoboCop” and its sequels.
Luck describes Roameo as “the illegitimate offspring of Wall-E and Baymax” while Screamscape calls the autonomous official “a cross between a popcorn truck and a Google maps camera vehicle.”

Robotic-assisted devices displayed a version of Roameo’s Six Flags during the Amusement Park and Attraction International Expo in November. Roameo at IAAPA Expo 2021 in Orlando, Florida, has a painted finish. light blue, roller coaster rail accents, neon green trim and Six Flags Public Safety Bureau shield.
Six Flags Park won’t call the robot Roameo. At the IAAPA Expo, the bot’s oversized Six Flags name tag reads “Parker”. Both the Six Flags bots in Magic Mountain and Over Texas will use the Parker name, according to RAD officials.
