Inglewood residents expecting parking woes on Super Bowl Sunday – Orange County Register

INGLEWOOD >> If Greig Boone leaves his Inglewood home on Super Bowl Sunday, he knows from experience that he will have trouble finding a parking spot on his own street when he returns a few hours later.

“It does spill over into my neighborhood. I witness the people as they’re parking. They get out of their cars and they’re walking towards the stadium,” said Boone, who has a city-issued street parking permit because he lives in a townhome with limited off-street parking.

Boone has lived in Inglewood for 20 years, so he’s been around long before there was an inkling that SoFi Stadium was coming to the City of Champions.

On NFL game days, Boone often experiences parking woes that would irk any long-time resident, especially those that have permitted street parking in their own residential neighborhood, about a half-mile from Hollywood Park.

“There’s no doubt that they’re going over there towards SoFi Stadium, so it’s been an impact and sometimes you can’t find parking on my street,” Boone said.

Currently, parking for up to two hours is allowed for vehicles without permits between the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Sunday. Only after that two-hour window has expired, can vehicles without permits be ticketed or towed.

Boone said he would like to see a more proactive approach when it comes to the enforcement of Inglewood’s citywide permit parking district.

He thinks it would be a good idea to have parking enforcement officers on neighborhood streets as nonresidents are pulling up as a visible deterrent, as well as increasing the traffic citation fee, to be more of a financial deterrent.

According to Bill Thompson, the traffic operations manager for the City of Inglewood, parking enforcement issues paper and electronic tickets from $55 to $70, with the additional chance that a vehicle without a residential parking permit could be towed.
