Manhattan Beach Man Says Driver Hit Him More Than Twice During Supermarket Mask Dispute – Orange County Register

TORRANCE – A Manhattan beach man is suing two other men, claiming he was run over twice by a car driver in a supermarket parking lot in 2020 following an argument over wear the mask.

William Todd Robinson’s Torrance Court suit against Alan Boeke and Ronald K. Stevenson for battery, negligence, willful emotional distress and assignment fraud. 69-year-old Robinson seeks unspecified damages and punishments in the lawsuit filed Thursday.

Boeke and Stevenson could not be reached immediately. Stevenson was identified in the suit as Boeke’s spouse.

Robinson and Boeke were shopping at the Vons store on Manhattan Beach Avenue in Manhattan Beach on October 2, 2020, when they bumped into each other, according to the suit

“Robinson did not wear a surgical or protective mask while shopping and, in fact, he is purchasing a mask among other items because he has exhausted his supply,” the suit wrote.

Upon seeing Robinson without a mask, Boeke “harassed and verbally assaulted” the plaintiff, the lawsuit states.

Although Robinson tried to ignore Boeke, the defendant became increasingly vocal and belligerent, according to the lawsuit.

“Ultimately, the plaintiff responded in kind, leading to an exchange of insults between the parties,” the lawsuit states.

Matters appeared to have subsided when a Vons employee handed Robinson a mask and the two men went to different cashiers, the suit showed. However, when Robinson left the store and reached the parking lot, he saw Boeke driving straight at him, the person wearing the suit said. Robinson tried to avoid being hit, but Boeke turned the car toward him, hitting the front of the defendant’s vehicle, according to the lawsuit.

Robinson fell and was run over by the front and rear wheels of Boeke’s car, then Boeke reversed the vehicle and ran over the plaintiff’s feet while he was still on the ground, the lawsuit alleges.

Boeke then sped toward the exit of the parking lot onto Manhattan Beach Avenue, the suit said.

A Vons worker standing near the front door of the store took a photo of Boeke’s car, matching the description of the car that Robinson later gave to Manhattan Beach police.

Robinson believes that shortly after the incident, Boeke and Stevenson moved their interests to their personal residence in Manhattan Beach in an attempt to limit the amount of available property that plaintiffs could be compensated for. his injuries, the lawsuit states.

Robinson incurred expenses for medications, X-rays, and other medical supplies and services, according to the lawsuit.
