Duck in front of Marc-Andre Fleury, Blackhawks – Orange County Register
The Ducks came in mid-season with two of their top goalkeepers unavailable to face the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday at United Center, with Anthony Stolarz joining John Gibson in the NHL’s COVID-19 protocol. Defenseman Cam Fowler is also included in the protocol.
With five players in the league’s protocol and three others on the bench injured, the Exhausted Ducks lost 3-0 to the Blackhawks, giving them a 19-15-7 record in 41 games. Top scorer Troy Terry was among the Ducks who were not present after testing positive and were left in Southern California.
Lukas Dostal started for Stolarz, although he was likely to start after Stolarz started in the Ducks’ 7-3 loss on Friday to the Minnesota Wild. Dostal started his career for the second time in three games and was as sharp as Chicago veteran Marc-Andre Fleury, a future Hall of Famer.
Both goalkeepers were sharp.
Fleury was sharper, marking the 70th mark of his career.
Chicago took a 1-0 lead when Brandon Hagel scored a 5:33 goal in the second half, shortly after a Ducks power game ended. Erik Gustafsson exits the box shortly after the Blackhawks clear the ball, take possession and then give the ball to Hagel, who beat Dostal.
Patrick Kane made it 2-0 with a powerhouse goal in the 4:22th minute of the third half, and Dominik Kubalik sealed it with a goal into the last empty net to make it final. Fleury made 37 saves and made it 20-5-0 against the Ducks.
