Broomfield’s Steven Contee sentenced to 20 years for exploiting ‘vulnerable boys’ – CBS Denver
ROOMFIELD, CO (CBS4) – A Broomfield man accused of exploiting homeless “vulnerable underage boys” has been sentenced to 20 years in prison and must register as a sex offender. Prosecutors say Steven Contee lured the boys into working for his construction company, then drugged them and exploited them commercially.
The judge called Contee “sociopathic.”
A victim’s attorney read a victim’s effects statement at Contee’s sentencing.
“He always kept me on drugs because he saw he could take advantage of me when I was high and easily control me,” the attorney read. “I remember a time when he couldn’t control me, he dragged me into a field and put a gun to my head so it made it easier to just do what he said.”
This victim stated, “I would ideally like three life sentences for the three lives he screwed up. I know it’s not possible, but he deserves it.”
“I saw him targeting us,” said another victim during the sentencing hearing. “He used drugs to manipulate … he made us do horrible things and we all complied because if you don’t do what Steve says then you will [are] always severe consequences.”
Judge Robert W. Kiesnowski Jr. spoke directly to Contee during the sentencing hearing and said, “Although you are well spoken and intelligent, your personality is sociopathic. You caught these victims in your web…. You left a trail of rubble behind for these people.”
“The only thing I can do is make you pay with years of your life and it still won’t fill the holes for those victims,” Judge Kiesnowski continued. “The public needs to know if someone does something like this, there will be serious consequences.”
