Dodds joined the Colts as vice president of player personnel, and they promoted him a year later to assistant general manager. Dodds worked for 10 seasons (2007-16) for the Seattle Seahawks, becoming the senior human resources executive for the last two years. Dodds started working in professional human resources in 2007 and moved on to university scouting in the south and central parts of the country, eventually becoming a cross-checker and then a scout nation. The Dodds joined the NFL with the Oakland Raiders and spent four seasons with them. In college, Dodds was a student coach at Texas A&M-Kingsville.

Dodds has a reputation as a skilled and tireless scout. He was considered a valued member of the Seahawks and helped build two Super Bowl teams while working for GM John Schneider, who didn’t want to lose him to the Colts. As the right-hand man of GM Chris Ballard of Indianapolis, the Dodds’ name has risen to prominence in January in recent years. The Carolina Panthers and Detroit Lions interviewed him about their GM jobs last year. The Dodds turned down an interview with the Cleveland Browns two years ago.
