Runners jog across Huntington Beach during the 26th Surfing City Marathon – Orange County Register

This year, Surf City Marathon runners have a whole week instead of a few hours to recover in time for the Super Bowl.

More than 11,000 runners gathered through Huntington Beach on Sunday morning, February 6, showing their endurance whether in the marathon, half-marathon or 5K.

In its 26th year, the Surf City Marathon has historically taken place on Super Bowl Sunday – but that tradition changed last year. Due to the pandemic, the race has been postponed for seven months until September.

Almost back to its normal schedule, the 2022 marathon comes just five months after the 2021 event.

Spokesman Dan Cruz said that shorter break may have contributed to the smaller number this year. Last year attracted 13,000.

As always, the track offers runners a scenic tour of Huntington Beach, with the start and finish lines just steps from the sand.
