Re “Don’t let the angry mob win; let Joe Rogan’s podcast stay” (February 17):

I also listened to Joe Rogan for a long time. I am 80 years old and was recommended his podcast by my son and grandsons. I found him very refreshing compared to other things I could hear or watch because, as John Stossel put it, “somehow he made the three hours of class enjoyable”. I even started listening to UFC guests and his comedian because the discussion was often much broader and more interesting. Controversial subject? Bring them in. I can do my research or I can turn off the program. I don’t turn it off. Aside from some rough language, I respect what he does.

Super drought in the West and sea level rise

There is a reasonable chance that California is experiencing a second consecutive year of severe drought. A recent study said the drought was the worst in at least 1,200 years. When activists and others opposed to Poseidon (February 12), specifically and generally desalination, realized that Southern California was more likely to run out of freshwater before any projected impacts. Which prediction of climate change could endanger the coast? When the answer becomes clear, it will be too late to avoid a shortage of fresh water obtained through desalination, importation or any other means. We now have nearly 20 years of climate change forecasting that is expected to alter the weather and coastlines.

So far predictions of sea level rise have not been proven correct or even approximate. With drought as an immediate concern, are we ruling out potential remedial actions because projections of environmental damage have so far been overstated and progressed much more slowly? compared to drought?

Are Californians willing to accept the possibility of severe water rates as a trade-off to get a computer’s estimated environmental impact in the distant future?

Big Gift of EDD

Re: “Alleged $25 million EDD scam” (February 15):

If Democrats have ever wondered why voters are so resistant to massive government programs, look no further than the EDD’s $20 billion donation by debit card. for prisoners, criminals and foreign residents. A great example of your tax dollars working hard, buying crooks’ “vehicles, furniture, bags and jewelry”.

SoFi: not such a sweet deal

Re “SoFi: The Stadium Deal That Made Rams Win” (February 15);

Sponsoring the SoFi stadium is not a sweet deal as your editorial says. The stadium’s very rapid environmental impact report did not foresee the full cost of the stadium, especially the terrible traffic congestion.

Now, the public instead of a developer billionaire is being forced to pay for the essential $1.5 billion “people’s motivation” that will take fans from metro rail to stadiums .

Greenhut’s exodus meme

Re “Inability to Save America from California” (February 13):

I find it perplexing that your editors continue to use the “California exodus” meme, to paraphrase: “California sucks, people leave so much.”

But wait, don’t most of us think our towns are getting too crowded? How many of your readers want more neighbors, more traffic, trash, crap? The three cheered for the exodus.

Unfortunately, the exodus meme is just that – a silly meme, and it’s time for your more professional writers, like Greenhut, to be able to do just that.
