Legitimate political discourse in the Capitol ?: Letter
Re “GOP Looks Likely To Criticize Cheney and Kinzinger” (February 4):
Sadly, I’m not surprised that the Republican National Committee voted Friday to censor Representatives Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger. What is shocking, however, is the national committee’s description of last year’s riots on the steps of the US Capitol as “legitimate political discourse”. Who are they kidding? There is absolutely nothing legal about what more than 700 people, who have been arrested and charged, did when they attacked and injured 140 police officers or smashed windows, broke doors and ransacked. the halls of Parliament. If the collective action of the rioters is legal, then I am the original member of the Beatles.

Biden calls for an end to gun violence in the US
As President Biden calls for greater gun control to limit the rise in violence in our major cities, perhaps a quote from history can help. During a controversy over President Lincoln’s delay in abolition of slavery, Frederick Douglass, a national spokesman against slavery, wrote, “Not the innocent horse made horse thieves, it’s not the traveler’s wallet that creates the highway robbers, it’s those guys’ fault. people who aspire to own horses, money by stealing, robbing and rebelling. ” And this is 1862. Could defamation of the police, cutting their budgets, allowing mobs to wreak havoc and riots be accepted as factors in the monstrous rise of felonies and murders? How can our nation’s leaders continue to pretend that gun control is the problem?

SB 9 and the state’s multifamily housing outlook, with mountain lions
Re “AG: Silicon Valley towns not exempt from state housing laws” (February 7):
Contrary to popular belief, lawmakers argued that demolishing single-family neighborhoods would create better housing, fewer social problems, and a happier neighborhood.
The residents of Woodside have the right to consider that changing their neighborhood will have adverse consequences. Knowledge is based on decades of seeing problems arising from dense housing moving into single-family neighborhoods in cities and suburbs around the country. Woodside’s response is the first of many strategies California voters will take to avoid the inevitable pain SB 9 will inflict on our neighborhoods.
