Anaheim Read Event Picked Her Book, Starting This Weekend – Orange County Register

Anaheim Public Library and its affiliates kick off the community-wide Anaheim Reads 2022 event with Thi Bui’s “The Best We Can Do,” starting February 12.

Community activities around reading and books will continue through March 18. Bui chronicles her family’s escape during the Vietnam War in 1976.

Adult book discussions about the book are scheduled at the East Anaheim Branch at noon on February 15 and at the Canyon Hills Branch at noon on February 17. Both discussions are concluding events. Other related activities include story time and crafts about Vietnam at 11 a.m. on February 18 at Canyon Hills. A special screening of the documentary film “Last Days in Vietnam” was held at 4:00 p.m. on February 22 at the branch. Additionally, on February 14, kids can enjoy “A Charlie Brown Valentine” at the East Anaheim branch from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Children will have the opportunity to color and make crafts while watching the movie. For more information, call 714-765-3887.

Women’s Connection planning dinner lunches

Valentine’s Day celebrations are scheduled for the next Anaheim, Orange and Villa Park Women’s Connect Lunch on February 14 at Black Gold Golf Club.

Doors open at 10:30 a.m. to socialize and shop from local on-site vendors, and luncheons and shows begin at 11:30 a.m.

Fashions Forever columnist Eileen Gerber will present a beautiful Valentine fashion show. Singer and speaker Lillie Knauls will provide afternoon entertainment and share how “True love stories never end.”

The day will also include first person giveaways, hostess giveaways, chance draws and more and will end at 1:30pm

The cost of attending the luncheon is $27 per person and reservations are required by contacting Barbi Zipperian at 714-280-9062. Visitors are encouraged to wear something pink or red, and hats are also encouraged.

Consider the Rotary Club

Anaheim Hills Rotary Club is in the membership promotion phase, and the club is extending invitations to potential members to join one of its meetings to meet members and learn more about the nonprofit group. profit.

The club meets on Thursday evenings at Anaheim Hills Golf Club.

Along with the network of relationships, Anaheim Hills Rotary members support various projects globally and in the hill community including food outlets for local food banks, purchasing programs educational and merchandise items through annual classroom grants to schools in the community, as well as purchasing and serving dinners to residents at Ronald McDonald House each month.

Plans are currently underway for the club’s annual Community Easter Egg Hunt.

In addition to community service opportunities, there are opportunities to not only network with local club members, but also with approximately 2,000 members of 46 Rotary clubs in and around Orange County; and make friends through social outings like wine tasting, baseball or dinner.

The Anaheim Hills Club has a diverse membership, some of which include insurance agents, dentists, financial advisors, optometrists, and engineers. However, former president Roy Jefferson said, “the club has no mortgage broker, principal, teacher, real estate attorney, doctor or nurse.”

Jefferson also said that while Rotary membership was previously limited to one occupation per club, it is now open to members within the same occupation.

Ancillary plans of the Federation to support the next meeting

Members of the Anaheim Hills Backend of the Anaheim Support League will meet at 7:30 p.m. on February 22 via Zoom.

The evening program will include guest speakers Kinsley Brittain and Pamela Sailor representing My Day Counts, an innovative, dynamic program in Anaheim that trains people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities to Success in work and life. The organization cooperates with various companies in the community for job training and recruitment.

Membership of the nonprofit AH Auxiliary Foundation is open to all women in the community. Meetings are held at 7:30 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of the month, excluding December and July. The Women’s Club Plans a Love Lunch

The next monthly luncheon for the Anaheim Hills Women’s Club is at noon on February 16 at the Anaheim Hills Golf Club. And all women in the community are invited.

Entertainer Bruce Pulcini will sing familiar love songs for the Valentine’s Day themed luncheon. Attendance costs $33 per person, contact Karon Kelleher at 714-912-4907 to register.
