Jaylen Waddle breaks NFL rookie record; Sunday Block Media Affects Dolphins . 2022 First Round Draft Selection and Scheduling

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle broke the NFL’s rookie reception record in Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots at Hard Rock Stadium.

With a simple five-yard catch on a sideline, Waddle scored his third catch on Sunday, taking him to 102nd in his rookie season, breaking Anquan Boldin’s 101st mark. was established with the Arizona Cardinals in 2003.

Miami coach Brian Flores denied the possibility of trying to break the record early last week, but Waddle got his third reception in the Dolphins’ fourth play from the script.

Although Waddle needed his 17th regular season game to be added this season, he broke the record after 16 games. He missed the Dolphins’ Dec. 5 win over the New York Giants on the sub/COVID-19 roster.

Waddle, who entered Sunday with 988 yards received during the season, also crossed 1,000 yards in his rookie campaign. His total reception ranks third in Dolphins history, behind only Jarvis Landry, who had 112 in 2017 and 110 in 2015.

Boldin played high school football at Pahokee and attended college at Florida State.

Draft Impact of Week 18

The Dolphins’ draft placement in the first round of the upcoming draft was not affected by the team’s results in Sunday’s season finale against the Patriots.

Remember, there were two deals with the Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers last season that sent Miami out of the 2021 draft No. 3 pick, previously acquired from the Houston Texans, back into 12th place. and then to number 6 , finally Waddle was chosen .

In the trades, the Dolphins’ 2022 first-round pick goes to the Eagles, while Miami’s spot is tied to the 49ers’ finish.

While the Dolphins take on the Patriots, fans can trace the San Francisco loss to the Los Angeles Rams and the New Orleans Saints win over the Atlanta Falcons in the same 4:25 p.m. time slot. If both happen, the 49ers will be eliminated from the NFC knockout round.

That means San Francisco’s pick to the Dolphins will be 18 people’s top pick. If 49 people qualify for the post-season, the selection will be higher than that number, and it could go very deep towards the end of the first round if San Francisco can then make it through a wild round. If the 49ers win the playoffs, the pick to go to Miami will be 25 or worse.

Dolphins’ Rivals ‘2022

Sixteen of the Dolphins’ 17 opponents in 2022 have already been settled, with the last being determined in a “Sunday Night Football” game between the Las Vegas Raiders and the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Chargers-Raiders game loser will host the Dolphins next season. This was because the AFC East teams played against an AFC West team that finished in the same position in its division the following year. Miami is in third place in the East, and the losers between Los Angeles and Las Vegas will be the West’s third.

The same idea goes for the AFC South, as the Dolphins will host the Texans, who finished third in that tournament.

Rest of the Miami schedule: The annual home-to-field game against AFC East rivals Patriots, New York Jets and Buffalo Bills; the entire AFC North with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns at home and the Cincinnati Bengals and Baltimore Ravens on the road; the entire NFC North with the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings at home and the Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions on the road; and the 17th additional game of the regular season will be a trip to San Francisco to face the 49ers, who are third in the NFC West, just as the Dolphins did in the AFC East.

If the Chargers-Raiders end in a tie, Las Vegas is behind Los Angeles, and the Raiders host the Dolphins in a regular season game for the third consecutive season.

Dates for all matches have yet to be announced.

Dolphins-Patriots stopped working

If the Dolphins are willing to let Mike Gesicki walk freely because they feel rookie Hunter Long is ready to step up in tight closing rotation, they’ll have to base it on most of the reps training for Long.

Long was one of five cases of healthy inactivation announced by the Dolphins prior to kickoff, along with reruns of Salvon Ahmed, wide recordist Preston Williams and quarterbacks Vince Biegel and Darius Hodge. None of the Dolphins players entered Sunday with an injury designation, while safe-backs Noah Igbinoghene and Sheldrick Redwine were the only two on the reserve/COVID-19 roster.

Long has been out of action for 10 games of his rookie year. He played seven, started two and finished with a reception for 8 yards.

The Patriots have two key defenders announced before Sunday, safe Kyle Dugger and defender Dont’a Hightower. The other three inactive players for New England were midfielder Jarrett Stidham, Devin Asiasi shot and ran back to JJ Taylor.
