Flip flops – Canadian storm brings heavy snow to Southern California – Orange County Register

Just a week after Southern California sweated for seven days in a row with high temperatures hovering around the 80s, residents must now brace for foothills-low snowfall.

There’s a 50% chance of rain on Tuesday, February 22 and about a 50% chance again on Wednesday, when some rain could turn into snow at 2,000 to 2,500 feet, the National Weather Service said. Gia said.

“We’re going to be hit by a low-pressure system coming down from Canada, bringing with it a large amount of cold air,” said Casey Oswant, a meteorologist with the weather agency.

Oswant said snow was more likely to fall in cities like Yucaipa, Banning, Beaumont, Lancaster and Palmdale towards the end of the rain, which could happen before dawn on Wednesday. Any accumulation is expected to be mild, she said.

Tuesday will present a series of issues of its own. A wind advisory in effect for Inland valleys and Orange County from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Southwest winds are expected at 15 to 20 mph with gusts to 30 mph.

“High winds can blow around unsafe objects. Tree limbs may fall and there may be power outages in some places,” the weather service said.

Highs of 52 to 57 degrees are forecast for the inland valleys on Tuesday, with a low of 33 to 38. Wednesday, highs are forecast at 51 to 57 degrees with a low of 26 to 35. Temperatures are expected to be minimal, with frost forming, until Saturday when the highest is forecast for a 70-degree solar eclipse.

Temperatures in the Los Angeles area are expected to be several degrees warmer than other areas this week.

At higher altitudes, a winter storm warning was issued from 4 p.m. Tuesday through Wednesday afternoon. Up to 6 inches of snow — some blowing — is expected to accumulate below 6,000 feet, with areas above that receiving 6 to 10 inches. Local accumulation could be heavier, the weather service said.

Forecast for Thursday to Sunday, no rain.
