ANAHEIM >> Foothill Men’s Basketball Coach Yousof Etemadi said keeping Canyon – usually a high-scoring team – under 50 points will be key for his Knights in Friday’s Crestview League game at Canyon High School.
The game plan worked.
The Knights, who led by the lowest margin for most of the game, have kept Canyon’s top scorers far below their average, which is weak. factor in their 49-46 victory.

Teams are even.
Foothill (17-1, 2-0) and Canyon (17-4, 0-1) are ranked 4th and 5th in Division 2AA of the CIF Southern Section and 9th and 10th respectively in Orange County.
Total points are by far the lowest of Canyon’s season, averaging 69.4 points per game.
The total score of the Knights was also lower than their average.
“We defended the whole game,” Etemadi said. “I think both teams are locked in defense.”
Senior striker Cruz Billings, the Knights’ top scorer, scored 9 of his team’s 11 points on 3 pointers.
Jay Horton’s slam dunk in the last minute of the first half gave the Knights a 21-20 lead.
Foothill took the lead in the third half and entered the fourth when a three-pointer from Benjamin, less than three minutes into the game, gave Comanches a 44-43 lead.

Canyon had a chance to seal the score one last time but missed 3 points with just a second left.
“We are the better team tonight. I am proud of my boys. They work really hard every day,” said Etemadi. “They are resilient. They are tough and they show up for the big games. ”
The Knights held out Canyon’s standout freshman Brandon Benjamin, who was averaging 18.2 points per game, to 11 points.
Comanches’ Jaden Goodall, who averages 12.2 points per game, went without a goal in the first half and seven points for the game.
