Redondo’s Beach BeachLife Festival will travel across the country and bring more music to the city with a second three-day concert later this year.

The third part of the festival, return to Redondo Beach’s Coastal Lagoon May 13-15, will be followed by a sister festival called BeachLife Ranch, held in late summer, according to co-founders Allen Sanford and Rob Lissner .

And BeachLife is growing in other ways, too, as business partners also said in a recent video interview that they are planning to open a restaurant and a social club in Redondo Beach inspired by the news. festival inspiration.

However, the new festival won’t be a copy of modern rock BeachLife, nostalgic ’90s bands, laid-back reggae and laid-back musical repertoire that appeal to an older crowd. BeachLife Ranch will focus on Americana and country rock, Sanford and Lissner said.

“We’re targeting a little bit of a different audience and genre just to expand the offering,” Lissner said.

The lineup and launch date have yet to be announced for the BeachLife Ranch but is expected in the spring.

When it comes to scope, organizers plan the new festival to reflect the original BeachLife event, which is expected to draw a total of about 30,000 people over the course of a three-day weekend to watch. lined up out of 50 strips or so.

“This will be about the same size and weight as BeachLife,” says Sanford. “Same place, same setting. We believe we have optimized the waterfront for an event like this so it will be very similar in feel and size,” he added.

The organizers are planning to make BeachLife Ranch an annual event. Like the original festival, which included the SideStage Experience, a 50-seat pop-up restaurant where celebrity chefs serve multi-course meals, BeachLife Ranch will include a theatrical food ingredient but in the form of cooking, Sanford said.

“We are very optimistic about our community, very optimistic about our way of life, and I am truly committed to putting more time and effort into preserving the culture that is important to us. around BeachLife,” said Sanford.

Founded by Sanford, a local businessman and restaurateur, and Lissner – the pair are also partners in the music venue Venice West – BeachLife had a well-received debut in May 2019 featuring artists including Willie Nelson, Jason Mraz and Steel Pulse. Sanford says the 50-seat restaurant will be called The BeachLife and will be located in the heart of Redondo Beach’s restaurant district at 1711 S. Catalina Ave., one-stop from The Rockefeller, one of Sanford’s other restaurants.

“BeachLife is as much about food as it is about music, so we decided to plant our roots and develop our SideStage Experience into a year-round experience,” says Sanford.

The menu will focus on seafood and healthier food options. Sanford said he hopes to open later this year.

Meanwhile, the social club project will be built on a space that once housed the now-closed On the Rocks Sports bar at 239 N. Harbor Drive in Redondo Beach.

Planned to be named the California Surf Club, the venue will be a diner, with a small menu serving packaged food similar to the ready-to-eat meals found at grocery stores. higher-end like Bristol Farms, Sanford said. There will also be grills set up so people can grill their own meat, he added.

And it will also be a social club where people can hang out, Sanford said.

“You come in, you can pick up a bottle of wine on the shelf, you can have your own food, you might not, but we have a grill master who can help you grill. There’s a kids play area in the back, which may or may not have live music going on, there’s some fire pits,” he said, describing his vision of the venue.

Sanford said it expects the 9,000-square-foot property to open this fall.
