Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters subpoenaed for contempt – CBS Denver
GRAND JUNCTION, Colorado (CBS4/AP) – Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters was subpoenaed for contempt. Peters is accused of secretly videotaping a court hearing and then lying to a judge about it.
If proven, the contempt allegation allows the judge to more quickly determine an appropriate remedy or punishment for their actions.
A judge on Wednesday issued an order ordering Peters to appear in court on March 31 to explain why she should not be despised and sanctioned.
Peters is also under investigation by federal and state authorities for an alleged voting machine security breach. The charges relate to an iPad that the Mesa County Attorney’s Office wanted to investigate.
She has denied any wrongdoing related to the alleged security breach.
Peters is running for Secretary of State in Colorado. This office is currently held by State Secretary Jena Griswold.
