Travis Kelce surprises mom in post-game press conference
Sunday’s playoff MVP wasn’t even on the field.
Donna Kelce, mother of Chief Travis Kelce and Eagles center Jason Kelce, flew from Tampa to Kansas City on Sunday to catch both of her sons in action during the wild weekend.
Although Jason’s Eagles fall into the hands of Buccaneers, 31-15, matriarch Kelce must meet Travis and the chiefs beat the Steelers. Following the win, Kansas City’s tight finish had quite a few surprises in his post-match press conference.
“We’ll go see Donna Kelce first,” a Chiefs employee said at Sunday’s press conference, leading to a quizzical look from Travis, who replied, “I’m sorry, what?”
Then Donna identified herself as the seven-time Pro Bowler who couldn’t stop smiling.
“Yes, that’s your mother,” Donna quipped. “I really made it. In a disappointing Tampa game, it’s a bit of an exhilaration to see you get a kill in a knockout. Oh my gosh, how great is that feeling? How good does that feel after all these years? ”
Travis, who played quarterback in high school, his inner Patrick Mahomes channel in Sunday’s game against the Steelers, scoring the first touchdown of his career for recipient Byron Pringle in the fourth quarter.
“I told my mom when I was 5 years old, that eventually I was going to beat the National Football League, finally I finished,” Travis said. “It took me only nine years. That’s a good question, Mom. ”
In addition to throwing a touchdown, Travis also caught a touchdown in a 42-21 win over Pittsburgh. Donna watched the match from a suite with her son’s longtime girlfriend, Kayla Nicole.
“Mama Kelce has done it,” Nicole posted Sunday night on her Instagram Story.
With the captain set to host a match against the Bills next weekend in the AFC qualifiers, perhaps Donna will make a trip back to Arrowhead Stadium.
