This is who will replace Jim Gardner at 11pm on 6ABC in Philly
Just as Jim Gardner was set to air his final 11pm Action News this evening, 6ABC announced who would replace him at the anchor desk.
WPVI-TV president and general manager Bernie Prazenica said Rick Williams will take over at 11 p.m., starting tomorrow, January 12.
Prazenica said in a statement on the radio’s website,
“I’m thrilled that Rick Williams will be bringing Action News at 11 p.m. after Jim Gardner. Rick is the only qualified person thanks to more than 30 years of experience delivering Morning, Morning Action News. noon and evening. His knowledge of our area and deep roots in our community made him the perfect choice.”
Williams joined channel 6 over thirty years ago and has co-hosted the 5pm and 10pm Action news on PHL 17.
He say his promotion,
“It’s no small thing to be following a news icon and, in many ways, a role model. Jim has set the bar for journalism very high at 11 o’clock and I hope I can maintain the same. a standard of excellence…while also having some fun with my evening colleagues. It’s going to be fun!”
While this will be Gardner’s final 11 p.m. broadcast, he’ll continue to put Action News at 6 p.m. until his retirement at the end of the year.
