Supreme Court stops vaccine trustee covering 80 million workers – Orange County Register

The Supreme Court has blocked the Biden administration from enforcing a requirement that employees at large businesses be vaccinated against COVID-19 or tested weekly and wear masks at work.

At the same time, the court is allowing the administration to proceed with delegating vaccines to most healthcare workers in the US.

Thursday’s court order amid a spike in coronavirus cases is a mixed bag for the administration’s efforts to increase vaccination rates among Americans.

The court’s conservative majority concluded that the administration had exceeded its authority by seeking to impose the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s vaccination or testing rule on businesses. The United States has at least 100 employees. More than 80 million people will be affected.

“OSHA has never imposed such a mandate before. So does Congress. Indeed, although Congress has enacted significant legislation addressing the COVID-19 pandemic, it has refused to enact any measure similar to what OSHA has enacted here,” the conservatives wrote. in an unsigned comment.
