Mainland Alum becomes Top 10 sports center

Former Mainland boys’ basketball star Osun Osunniyi has made a name for himself in St. Bonaventure.

He has increased his career record for blocked shots, has a twitter account that tracks all of his saves and on Friday night his career 251 tackle entered the SportsCenter Top 10, coming in second. 9.

Osunniyi saved Jayden Nunn’s shot past the team’s bench and dropped about five rows deep into the crowd at Reilly Center.

He is advancing on the lost Bonnies shot block, edging past former first-round picker Andrew Nicholson, by 248 blocks in his career.

He’s 41 blocks from the school’s record of 289 set by Caswell Cyrus 22 years ago.

The 2017 Mainland graduate averaged 14.4 points and 11.4 rebounds per game as a senior, leading the Mustangs to a 22-6 record and could be drafted in this year’s NBA Draft.
