Cause of death of Stanford goaltender determined

Officials on Thursday released the manner of death of a star Stanford University goaltender who was found unresponsive in her campus condominium earlier this week.

Katie Meyer’s death was determined to be her own fault and there is no indication of third-party fault, Santa Clara County said in a statement obtained by NBC Bay area.

The county coroner and coroner’s office is investigating her death and no further information has been released.

“The Medical Examiner offers his sincere condolences to Katie Meyer’s family, friends and fans,” the statement said.

Meier, a 22 years old native of Newbury Park, Californiaand the international relations major would have been a senior going into that fall season.

Meyer was best known for stop two penalties in a dramatic shootout victory North Carolina in the 2019 NCAA Finalsas Stanford won the Women’s College Cup.

Last season, team captain Meyer played in all 20 Stanford games as the Cardinals finished fourth in the Pac-12 and advanced to the postseason game before bowing out Local rival Santa Clara.

She was found dead in her dorm on Tuesday. The school made her death public on Wednesday.
