35,000-gallon sewage spill shuts down Newport Bay waters – Orange County Registry

NEWPORT BEACH – A sewage spill in Newport Beach has forced seas from the western end of Newport Bay to 8th Street to close.

The OC Health Care Agency’s Department of Environmental Health announced the closure Monday morning, noting that approximately 35,000 to 50,000 gallons of wastewater leaked into the area as a result of the sewer line of a Bay restaurant. Newport is clogged.

The affected area will remain closed to swimming, surfing and diving until subsequent water quality monitoring results reach an acceptable standard.
