3.5 quake reported Monday night in Riverside County – Orange County Register
PALM SPRINGS – A magnitude 3.5 earthquake was reported at 11:39 p.m. Monday in Riverside County, four miles from Palm Springs, according to the United States Geological Survey.
The quake was at a depth of 7.6 miles and struck about 7 km from Banning, 8 km from Valle Vista, 9 km from San Jacinto and 9 km from Beaumont, according to the USGS.
USGS said on its website The quake, centered about 6 miles northwest of Idyllwild, was also felt in Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino and San Diego counties, according to responders for its ShakeMap.
In the past 10 days, there have been two earthquakes of magnitude 3.0 or greater centered nearby.
An average of 234 earthquakes with magnitudes between 3.0 and 4.0 occur each year in California and Nevada, according to a recent three-year data sample.
