You want to woo your partner – then head to the city that has been voted the romantic capital of Great Britain

VALENTINE’S DAY may have come and gone, but if you’re looking for a little romance, look no further.

Because Scotland’s capital has been voted the most romantic city for dating in Britain.

A poll by quiz clothes asked where most of us dreamed of spending our next date night and the city was voted the best for those looking to dress up and enjoy a night of courtship.

They also found that our top activity for a romantic date is dinner at a restaurant, with bowling, arcades, and mini-golf, big no-nos.

The study evaluated the number of restaurants rated as “romantic” and hotels rated “romantic” on TripAdvisor.

They also examined the number of “couple activities” according to TripAdvisor, as well as relevant TikTok and Instagram hashtags for Edinburghdanight and online searches for “date night [CITY]”

With an overall score of 90 per cent, Edinburgh led the way for couples wanting to enjoy some ‘we time’.

The capital has a total of 256 restaurants rated “romantic” and 49 hotels rated “romantic” on TripAdvisor, both of which are the highest outside of London.

Not only that, the city also boasts 278 activities listed under the Best Things to Do for Couples in Edinburgh, showing that dating here can be anything but boring.

Other high-ranking cities included Bath (83%), York (82%), Liverpool (82%) and Oxford (82%).

Unfortunately, the romance factor wasn’t that high for those looking for a romantic night out in the north-eastern city of Middlesbrough, which ranked at the bottom of the chart at just eight per cent.

With just 18 “romantic” restaurants, two “romantic” hotels, and 13 activities, couples in love may have to look further afield for their next date night.

However, the survey found that over 12.5 million Brits don’t go on dates at all!

Almost one in six (14 percent) of respondents admitted they hadn’t dressed up for a date night since January last year, and 18 percent haven’t since July.

Just four percent say they dress up for their date night once a month, and even fewer (two percent) do it weekly.

When it comes to date night activities, popular options also include day trips, such as to the beach or a new city (nine percent), with seven percent opting for a festival or gig followed by a night at the movies six percent and just as many want a date in a pub.

Zara Masson, Senior Digital Marketing Manager at QUIZ, said: “It’s a shame to see that the majority of Brits haven’t had the opportunity to do so for seven months, despite people dreaming of hookup and looking for the perfect place for a romantic rendezvous to dress up smart for the occasion.”
