Wordle New York Times
The game was developed by software developer Josh Wardle, who sold the popular word game to The New York Times after it became a worldwide sensation.
In a statement on Twitter, he wrote: “Since starting Wordle I have been amazed by the response from everyone who has played.
“The game turned out bigger than I ever imagined (which I don’t think is a great achievement considering I made the game for an audience).
“It’s been incredible to see the game bringing so much joy to so many people, and I’m so grateful for the personal stories some of you have shared with me – from Wordle uniting distant family members to provoking more friendly ones rivalries to support medical recovery.
“On the other hand, I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t mind-blowing.”
