Why I Now Regret Some of the Roles I Played in Nollywood – Mercy Johnson

When you start a new discipline, you want to be exceptional at what you do.

They want to climb the ladder and excel in their field more than anyone else in the field has excelled before, so they cross over and over to differentiate themselves. If you’re an actor, that means taking every process you can find, doing what other actors or actresses might be uncomfortable with, and doing whatever you can to assert yourself in the field.

But what happens when you are established in this discipline years later? Some people watch their adventure there and are happy with all the choices they made along the way. For some others, they resurface and there are a few regrets they have in a number of choices they’ve made.

For actress Mercy Johnson, who has now returned to her career, there are some decisions she wished she had made differently and the 38-12-month-old actress explains why. Here’s what Mercy said in an interview with Goldmyne.

Speaking about why she can no longer do positive things like move around naked or do romantic scenes in movies, Mercy Johnson said, What would younger women do if I did that? As you progress past a positive streak, try to move forward and do better. In my opinion you don’t want people to inform you about what is right or wrong.

Age appeals to me. I’ve outgrown that stage, I’m responsible to many people: my husband and my children. I hate embarrassing her in any way.

My daughter is developing. Every once in a while she grabs my phone and starts going to Google and says, “Mom, my friends said…” And they’re very curious.

I do not think so [playing nude scenes] is something I want to do to get my kids to ask me in some way or have some of their thoughts they want to invite and couldn’t.

My sense of adulthood is higher, my judgments are higher. Some of the mistakes I made in the afterlife are things I wouldn’t do now.

Some alternatives that I did then, I would not do now. What’s very funny is that one of the things Mercy Johnson was revered for, especially in the lower back, turned into her ability to take on any type of position, even roles that many other actresses of the time would have transcended.

It’s so exciting what comes with starting a family and what that changes for someone.

What do you think? Do you think Mercy Johnson is right not to visit these places in her films anymore? Or do you suspect that as an actress, she must be willing to act independently of her scripting requirements, as she did back then? Let me know your thoughts by leaving a comment.
