Why are there still ballot boxes in Orange County after the election? – Orange County Registry

Although ballots are still being counted, the midterm elections are over.

And yet bright white-and-yellow boxes — adorned with “official ballot boxes” — are scattered across the county.

The reason is simple:

“Keeping them in the same place from election to election helps voters find them more easily,” said Orange County Registrar Bob Page.

There are 121 ballot boxes in Orange County. They serve as a place for voters to cast their ballots quickly and conveniently when they don’t want to mail them in or stop by a voting center. Some are walk-ups only, while others offer drive-through services.

The boxes are bolted to the concrete, and when the vote is closed (as it is now), they’re locked so nobody can put anything inside, Page said.

For the midterm elections this year, Dropboxes were available 24/7 from October 10th to November 8th.
