Who are Lighthouse?

Lighthouse is a life coaching and mentoring organization founded by businessman Paul Waugh.

The company is the subject of a BBC documentary called A Very British Cult, which details the lives of those affected.

Numerous former users of the service have come forward to talk about the money they put into the company and why they left.

Is the life coaching business still going?

Lighthouse has stopped running as of April 4, 2023.

This was the result of a nine-month bankruptcy investigation that saw a Supreme Court judge shut down the organization for undeclaring assets.

Waugh said that he was thinking of shutting down the group for a while but had no intention of stopping the group permanently, suggesting he wanted to expand the business around the world.

The company is estimated to have made £2.4million from vulnerable customers.

What is life coaching?

In life coaching, wellness professionals help others take steps toward happiness by making changes in their lives.

These changes can include lifestyle, diet, and attitude changes.

Coaches often create a plan for their clients to help them achieve their goals.

This can be used to build confidence, get better at tasks, or help your career.

What did the BBC inquiry into Lighthouse find?

An 18-month investigation by the BBC uncovered shocking revelations from people using the service.

This included Jeffrey Leigh-Jones, who joined the group in 2019 to learn about self-discipline.

He did this while planning a one-man trek to the South Pole.

However, his involvement with the group cost him thousands of pounds and Jeffrey sold his house to invest in the organisation.

He spent a total of £131,000 including £25,000 to become a closer member of the company.

Jeffrey left the group after his perception changed. He requested a refund but received none.

It was also noted that the group threatened to investigate him and his girlfriend Dawn.

What did Lighthouse say about the allegations?

Lighthouse has claimed that the BBC’s documentary and findings are a myth.

They have also gone so far as to post a video on YouTube describing the BBC as a “cult”.

I never wear a bra and love sheer tops so you can see my piercings, people always stare
I'm a reverse catfish - people who said I looked better before were lying

You have described the BBC as libelous and defamatory.

The group also raised a number of previous incidents and scandals involving the BBC in a post published on its website.
