Wan Rosdy, Mohamed Khaled and Johari secure Umno VP posts

KUALA LUMPUR: The chairmen of the Umno State Liaison Committee for Pahang, Johor and the Federal Territories – Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin and Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani – have been formally confirmed as the party’s vice presidents for the 2023–2026 term at the conclusion of the yesterday’s party polls.

Umno Electoral Committee Chairman Tan Sri Syahrir Abdul Samad said in his announcement today that Wan Rosdy, the Pahang Menteri Besar, received the highest number of votes with 126, followed by Mohamed Khaled, who is also Minister of Higher Education (115 votes ), and Johari (109 votes).

The three veteran Umno leaders prevailed against five other candidates namely Pengerang MP Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said who received 72 votes, former MP Kepala Batas Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican (48 votes), former MB Johor Datuk Ir Hasni Mohammad (42 votes), former Vice President Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid (40 votes) and Dr. Mohd Yusof Musa, who received no votes.

He said 187 divisions were involved in the polls for the key leadership positions, which also retained the post of permanent chairman of Tan Sri Badruddin Amiruldin after he received 176 votes against challenger Datuk Syamsul Najmi Shamsudin, who received nine votes .

“Datuk Seri Abdul Fattah Abdullah will take over as Deputy Permanent Chairman in the meantime,” he told a media conference at Menara Dato Onn here today.

Meanwhile, those who have almost certainly secured a seat on the party’s Supreme Council, Datuk Seri Dr. , Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan (163 votes), Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin (156 votes).

Others include Datuk Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub (148 votes), Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim (147 votes), Datuk Seri Shahaniza Shamsuddin (127 votes), Datuk Azian Osman (123 votes), and Datuk Seri Dr. Md. Alwi Che Ahmad (115 votes).

Syahrir said the elections elected 54 new faces as department heads, showing the political dynamism within Umno in addressing future challenges. -Bernama
