GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) – People will gather on the Blue Bridge in Grand Rapids tonight to honor those killed in domestic violence cases.

At the annual candlelight vigil for Domestic Violence Month, the Coordinated Community Domestic Violence Response Team in Kent County the names of the deceased will be read out.

The organizers also want to remind people that there are resources in our community to help those who are in abusive relationships.

Kent County Prosecutor Chris Becker said there have been at least five domestic violence-related homicides in Kent County so far in 2022, with eight victims.

“It’s a very moving event…” Becker said of the annual vigil. “We’re getting names from across the state, it’s not just the local ones and how many people across the state are being affected. And then you usually have a number of families here who are personally affected. … It raises awareness and makes someone think maybe see something, say something, do something.”
