FORT WAYNE, Indiana (WANE) — After racial riots at Homestead High School, students at Northrop High School protested Friday during school hours.
Students poured into the hallways with shouts and chants in the afternoon as some took a knee to protest injustices at Fort Wayne Community Schools, several attendees told WANE 15.
A person at the school said about half the school appeared to be involved and that plans for the protest were circulating among students during the first 10 minutes of fifth period classes on Friday morning. Another person at the school said officials had announced that the bells would be turned off for classes and that all students would remain in their sixth-period classrooms.
The bathrooms were also locked, said another person inside.
Some water bottles were thrown and some students sat on each other’s shoulders, but there didn’t seem to have been any violence.
Officials at Fort Wayne Community Schools were contacted and told WANE 15 a response was on the way.
