An investigation is underway after a Ventura County sheriff’s deputy shot a vehicle in Thousand Oaks early Saturday morning.

According to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, it happened around 5:05 a.m. on the 3000 block of Rollings Avenue.

MPs first responded to the area for a report of a catalytic converter theft.

The shooting happened after a brief pursuit of a dark gray four-door Nissan Sentra, the sheriff’s department said. The driver of the vehicle reportedly drove in the direction of a deputy, resulting in gunfire.

The deputy was unharmed and the suspect drove away and is still pending. It is not yet clear whether the suspect was injured in the shooting.

“It seems we are facing the same problems as some of our neighboring counties where people are having their catalytic converters stolen from their cars… Because of the precious metals in the catalytic converters, if they recycle these items, they get money,” Lt. VCSO’s Tim Lohman.

Anyone with information about the suspect vehicle or suspected shooter is urged to contact the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office at 805-765-0426.

The incident is being investigated.
