Vanden High Boys tennis out duels vs Vacaville – The Vacaville Reporter

The Vanden High Boys tennis team edged Vacaville 5-4 in a showdown in the Monticello Empire League on Thursday.

In doubles, the Bulldogs defeated the Vikings in all three games, resulting in a singles win.

“Our doubles were defeated today but showed a huge improvement in their game and competitiveness, going two of their three games to three sets,” Vikings head coach Stan Lewis said.

In the singles games, the Vikings won the first three games in straight sets, but in games four and five, Vanden’s CJ Hongo defeated Vacaville’s Adam Bates, and Vanden’s Alex Burghardt defeated Vacaville’s Kaden Craun in the final set of their two games to secure the win.

The Vikings improved their aggregate record in the Monticello Empire League to 2-3 and will take on Rodriguez away on Tuesday.


Vacaville 14, Fairfield 1

The Vacaville High badminton team defeated Fairfield 14-1 in Thursday’s MEL game.

This is the Bulldogs’ first victory in the Monticello Empire League as they improved to 1-3.

They will face Vintage in an exhibition match on Friday.


Mustangs sweep bulldogs

In his first swim meet of the regular season on Wednesday, the Vacaville High swim and dive team was defeated by Rodriguez in a Monticello Empire League matchup.

For boys, the Mustangs edged out the Bulldogs, 96-86.

Among the Bulldogs’ best finishes in subsequent races was the 200 medley replay with Jack Cook (chest), Will Bulris (fly) and Zach Moore (free) leading the way.

Cook was first clear in the 200 (1 minute, 55 seconds). Bulris won the 200 (2:09) and Ben Thiessen was second (2:19).

Jayden Scalise Kifer won the 100 Fly (1:06) and Cook won the 500 Free (5:18). Bulris won the 100 breast (1:06).

Vaca won the 400 free relay with Bulris, Moore, Thiessen and Cook.

The Mustangs defeated the Bulldogs 125-55 in the girls’ tournament.

Alex Bulris was second in the 200 IM (2:14) and in the 100 breaststroke (1:13). Carina Rivera was second in the 500 Free (5:46).

In the girls junior varsity side of the meet, the Mustangs defeated the Bulldogs 133-32.


Armijo 8, Vacaville 1

After the first two games of the series, the Vacaville High baseball team was beaten 8-1 by Armijo in Thursday’s MEL game.

The Bulldogs (6-2, 2-1) hit once in the bottom of the first but were held on six hits overall. Senior Cameron Malone and junior Finn Chapman each had two hits.

The Bulldogs are back on the diamond Saturday when they compete in the East Bay/Sac-Joaquin Challenge at Banner Island Ballpark in Stockton when they face Berkeley.

Linden 4, Vacaville Christian 3

Vacaville Christian High Baseball couldn’t hold back 4-3 against the Linden Lions in Thursday’s Sierra Delta League game.

At the end of the first tournament, the Falcons got on the board for the only time of the game when senior William Verdon, junior Thomas Lane and sophomore Nicko Meadows all knocked out in runs.

After scoring just one run in the top of the second, the Lions rallied and scored one run in each inning between the fourth and sixth to secure the win. The Falcons record overall drops to 2-6 overall and 1-3 in the league.

The Falcons look to bounce back with some more league play on Tuesday when they play the Esparto Spartans away.

Maxwell 11, Buckingham Charter 7

The Buckingham Charter High baseball team lost 11-7 to Maxwell in Thursday’s non-league game.

After the Knights fielded one atop the first and then two atop the fourth, the Knights fielded four atop the seventh, but their comeback was eventually thwarted by the Panthers.

Leading the Knights offense (1-3) was Senior Dylan Kosar, who went 2-on-3 with a double and an RBI. RBIs were also collected by sophomore Sean Grogan, Tyler Church, Zach Petit and Jake Moffat.

Linden 12, Vacaville Christian 1

The Vacaville Christian High softball team failed to recover after a tough first inning in their game against the Linden Lions in this Sierra Delta League home game on Thursday, going 12-1.

After allowing nine in the top of the first, the Falcons didn’t score from an RBI from senior Jolee Langil until the end of the second. After the Lions scored three extra runs in the middle innings, the game was called off via the clemency rule after the fifth.

The Falcons record now falls to 2-2 overall and 1-2 in the league.

Vacaville Christian will be looking to bounce back this Saturday when they take on Rio Vista.
