Putrajaya: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (Picture) is confident that the unity government he chairs will serve out its full term.
Speaking to over 100 diplomatic officials here today, Anwar seemed unperturbed by claims by PAS President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang that he was overthrowing the current government.
“Whatever the PAS President says, I am confident that this coalition will survive to the end of its term,” he said.
Abdul Hadi reportedly said that neither party was able to stop Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) plans to overthrow the unity government, saying that politics is dynamic and such a practice is seen as normal in a democratic country.
At the session, Anwar said that to lead the country to its former glory, Malaysians, including government officials, must not only maintain good governance but also be willing to make changes.
“I am sending a strong message to Malaysia that we must change course. We must do this and make this change that is sorely needed to save this country from the mess we are in.”
“It’s not a matter of choice, it’s imperative and moral,” he said.
Anwar urged heads of diplomatic missions to do better for the country and it was vital for Malaysian officers and diplomats abroad to set an example of what it means to be a good, competent leader.
“Why serve and observe the principles of good governance where ethics and values are relevant?
“Serving the nation is the priority, which means you have a duty to encourage people to come as tourists and investors to bring light and hope to Malaysians,” he said. –Bernama
