Umno election results expected tonight

pontian: The results of the Umno (MT) Supreme Council elections are expected to be announced tonight, said the party’s general secretary, Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.

“We expect to get the results at night. We hope to have a clear picture by midnight (at the latest).

“That’s the expectation, but small sections with not many delegates can have their results in the afternoon. In the case of Pontian, the number of delegates is large at 690, so it may take some time to complete,” he said.

Ahmad, who is also deputy chief of the Pontian Umno division, told reporters after voting in the division’s elections in Dewan Jubli Intan Sultan Ibrahim here today.

He said 189 of the 191 divisions across the country are holding party elections today.

“Only two Umno divisions – Tanah Merah, Kelantan and Kota Kinabalu, Sabah – are not holding elections because they were suspended for certain reasons,” he added.

The Umno polls began on February 1st with the annual meetings and branch elections, including for the Wanita, Youth and Puteri movements.

Elections for Wanita, Youth and Puteri divisions followed, as well as national excos for Wanita, Youth and Puteri, held simultaneously across the country on March 11.

The Umno polls end today with the divisional and MT polls including for the three vice presidential posts. -Bernama
