UK weather: Met Office releases official forecast for Easter weekend – with Brits set to soak up 17C sun

The official forecast for the Easter weekend has been released by the Met Office, with a sunny 17C in sight.

The national forecaster expects “plenty of fine and calm weather” after a wet and windy week.

Brightest conditions are expected in western areas through the bank holiday weekend.

A chilly start is forecast for Good Friday, but temperatures are expected to rise as the day progresses, reaching highs of 17C.

The Met added that Friday will be “most parts dry with light winds and plenty of sunshine.”

Sunny spells are also expected over the weekend, with temperatures rising into the early to mid-teens by the afternoon.

There is bad news for hay fever sufferers too, as pollen levels are expected to be either high or very high everywhere from the Midlands to the South West on Friday and Saturday before falling on Sunday.

Airbourne allergen expert Max Wiseberg said: “We had our first high pollen counts this week and after a few days of rain and cloud, millions of trees will be encouraged to shed pollen over the Bank Holiday weekend.”

However, cooler and cloudier conditions will prevail throughout the eastern coastal areas.

According to meteorologists, there could even be light rain showers and wafts of fog coming in from the North Sea.

Easter Monday is also expected to be wet as an Atlantic weather system rolls in bringing rain to much of the country.

David Oliver, a Met Office deputy chief forecaster, said: “Similar conditions are likely for much of the UK on Easter Saturday, but over the second half of the Easter weekend the Atlantic will increasingly exert its influence.

“A frontal system is expected to move in from the west, displacing the high pressure that is over Britain.

“This will spread the rain across all areas during the second half of Easter Sunday and into Easter Monday, although there is some uncertainty as to the exact timing.

“Once the rain stops, blustery showers are likely to follow in many areas.”
