Uber driver faces jail for assault in Santa Ana – Orange County Register

An Uber driver admitted Tuesday to assaulting a woman in Santa Ana and was immediately sentenced to more than nine years in prison.
Jason Humberto Rodas, 32, pleaded guilty to assault with intent to commit a sex offense, attempted violent rape, assault and criminal threats, court documents show, while a kidnapping charge was dismissed.
Rodas was sentenced to 9 years and 8 months in prison, according to court documents.
According to police, in September 2020, Rodas picked up a 51-year-old woman to drive her to her place of work. Halfway through the ride, police said, Rodas told the woman he wouldn’t charge her for the ride and began asking her questions about her sex life.
Police said Rodas drove erratically and would not let the woman go, threatening to throw her out if she called for help.
The woman got out of the car near the 300 block of South Minnie Street, police said, but Rodas reportedly caught up with her and choked and assaulted the woman.
