A look back at the top Orange County high school players worth watching this season:

TOP OC PLAYERS

Will Burns, Trabuco Hills: Transferred from Mission Viejo, Burns was a shortcoming to join Texas Tech. He was the starting quarterback for the Mustangs in the fall.

Xavier Cadenas, Servite: The ace of the Brother’s formidable pitcher is the 6-6 senior right hand. The San Diego State Registrar’s Fast Ball was run in the mid-’90s.

Derek Curiel, Orange Lutheran: The Lancers speeding center console is an LSU commitment. He has been considered by some to be one of the top sophomores – and perhaps the best – in the country.

Tyler Goff, JSerra: The lower right hand is committed to the State of Oregon. Gough has what Lions coach Brett Kay calls “electricity.”

Gavin Grahovac, Villa Park: A stunning header, he was the MVP of the Crestview League last season. Commitment Texas A&M has been considered the best facility in California.

David Horn, JSerra: Senior 6-4 is a right-handed pitcher and first hitter. Signator Vanderbilt was a key contributor last season as the Lions reached the finals of CIF-SS Division 1.

Matthew Morrell, Cypress: Central School of Excellence committed to the State of Oregon. He has shown his athletic versatility during the football season as a receiver and quarterback.

Austin Overn, Foothill: Overn, a high-level striker, also played very well this fall. Last season’s USC participant beat .419 with 22 RBI and 26 stolen bases.

Mikey Romero, Orange Luther: The senior head, who is signed to LSU, is possibly the Lancers’ best player. It’s a pretty obvious achievement given the deep talent in that squad.

Oliver Santos, Orange Luther: Left-handed students were homeschooled prior to enrolling in Orange Lutheran this school year. He’s an MLB Draft prospect and Duke is committed to a fast ball hitting 95 mph.
