Titans’ AJ Brown trade rumors: Star receiver tweets he’s ‘tired of it all’

A new trend in the NFL began this offseason, as high-end wide receivers looking for new deals traded away rather than getting the money they wanted from the teams they’ve spent their entire careers with. First it was Davante Adams, then Tyreek Hill. We may not be done yet as rumors are swirling around Seattle Seahawks’ DK Metcalf and Tennessee Titans’ AJ Brown.

As dramatic as this NFL offseason has been, we have to expect the unexpected. Still, Brown appeared to be fed up with the noise as he picked up his phone on Sunday and tweeted“Tired of all this, just like all of you.”

Brown is entering the final year of his rookie contract and could land a new contract that will make him one of the league’s highest-paid wide receivers. The top 5 highest-paid wideouts has changed dramatically this offseason, with three of the five getting their new deals just in the last month.

Last week, ESPN reported that the New York Jets were “eyeing on” Metcalf, Brown and Deebo Samuel for a potential trade. It’s likely that the San Francisco 49ers will view Samuel as completely untouchable, while the Metcalf situation is interesting as the Seahawks enter a rebuild without Russell Wilson and Bobby Wagner. Brown’s name being thrown around elicited a strong reaction from the Titans’ fan base and led to general manager Jon Robinson having to indirectly respond to the noise.

“Right now we’re just trying to get through this free agency period and see where we’ve landed in terms of the cap,” Robinson said via the Titans’ official website. “AJ is an important part of what we do. He’s a great teammate, he works hard, he’s what we’re all about. AJ is a titan and we want AJ to stay a titan. And that’s part of our goal this off-season. or whenever that manifests, making an agreement to keep him around.”

ESPN then elaborated on their report, saying the Seahawks were not cooperating on trade talks, making Brown the more likely trade candidate since Tennessee doesn’t have the healthiest cap situation. There’s no doubt the Jets — and likely a few other teams — are interested in trading for a top wideout. But the team with the star wide receiver must abandon their ongoing negotiations with the star wide receiver. This is clearly not where the Titans are – at least not yet.
