A political party is hoping to soon be home to disaffected Republicans and Democrats alike, and everyone who identifies politically as independent is spending some time with ABC13’s This Week in Texas.
The video above is from our 24/7 live stream.
It’s called the Forward Party and, according to its organizers, is gaining in importance. It was founded by former Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang.
The party recently held its first convention here in Houston with at least 1,300 registered attendees, which was more than the 200 people expected.

The party has a presence in 37 states, and over 20,000 people have volunteered to help organize the party.
ABC13 political reporter and anchor Tom Abrahams visits Yang, prospective members and former Republican New Jersey Governor Christine Todd Whitman, who is co-chair of the Forward Party with Yang.
“Most people who are fed up feel like there’s no way out, and the hardest truth is that they’re largely right,” Yang said.
“That’s what the Forward Party will change. We will introduce real choice and dynamism to a political system that is not even bipartisan in most of Texas or the country.”
