These 3 holidays are also celebrated on Valentine’s Day
(WANE) – While most people recognize Valentine’s Day as the most important holiday for February 14, there are other reasons to celebrate the day.
Here are three other national holidays celebrated annually on this day:
National Organ Donor Day
National (Organ) Donor Day was created in 1998 by Saturn Corporation and its United Auto Workers affiliates. These partners include the US Department of Health and Human Services and a number of nonprofit healthcare organizations.
This holiday aims to raise awareness of the importance of organ donation. According to the Health Resources & Services Administration, about 17 people die every day waiting for an organ transplant. Each transplant can save up to eight lives and improve more than 75.
The offering of donations focuses on organs, tissues, bone marrow, platelets and blood.

National Ferris Wheel Day
Today may also be recognized as National Ferris Wheel Day. The holiday also honors the birth of George Washington Gale Ferris, Jr., better known as the man who invented the Ferris wheel.
The Ferris wheel was invented in 1893 as the centerpiece for the World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago. Daniel H. Burnham, director of works for the fair, was looking for an attraction to rival the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France.
As a result, the Ferris wheel was born.
The tallest Ferris wheel in the world is the Ain Dubai in the United Arab Emirates at 250 meters high.
National Cream Filled Chocolate Day
Of these three holidays, this one probably has the strongest connection to Valentine’s Day. Americans buy about 58 million pounds of chocolate on February 14th each year.
The National Day of Cream Filled Chocolates was created in 1912 by Jean Neuhaus II, a Belgian chocolatier.
