The new chapter of MKI hoped to bring about change to uplift Islam

Putrajaya: The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, hopes that the 69th session of the National Council on Islamic Religious Affairs (MKI), which he will chair today, will serve as a starting point for efforts to improve the government’s role in Islam-related Matters return to the right party.
Sultan Sharafuddin, who chaired the council meeting for the first time since he was elected MKI chairman last year, said it was his high hope that all parties would respect the provisions set out in the federal constitution, which protects the rights and powers of the Malayan rulers .
“I am confident that as this new chapter begins, the Conference of Rulers can play an appropriate role as the voice of rulers in Malaysia to advance Islamic administration at the federal level and facilitate a closer relationship with the states, in line with the principles of the Constitution.” said His Royal Highness in Istana Melawati, here Putrajaya.
Also attending the meeting were Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also Deputy Chairman of the MKI, and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Dr. Mohd Na’im Mokhtar, part.
HRH also hoped that legislators and ministers would focus on solving the various problems people are facing and restoring the country’s prosperity and glory.
“Recently I was reading newspaper clippings related to the policies of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s government where he gave his pledge that the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) group, the secular concept of state and communism never be recognized by his administration.
Sultan Sharafuddin said the PM’s assurance was timely to give people confidence that the government is serious about upholding Islamic principles based on Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah.
He also called on all parties to support efforts to strengthen Islam, strengthen MKI and put the federal administration of Islamic religious institutions on the right track.
“Representatives in their respective states should also raise any proposals that have been implemented at state level that are likely to be shared in the common interest of our country and our Muslim fellow citizens.
“I hope that as this new chapter of MKI begins, we will all be able to walk together with a new spirit and mindset and bring about good changes in the effort to uplift Islam in Malaysia,” he said .
At the 258th Rulers’ Conference last year, Sultan Sharafuddin was elected Chairman of the MKI for two years.
The conference also decided that one of the reigning monarchs should take turns assuming the role and responsibility of chairman for two years, while the prime minister would be appointed vice-chairman in accordance with the recommendation of the Islamic Affairs Committee.
Before that, in practice, the chairmanship was held by the prime minister, beginning with the late Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra AlHaj. -Bernama
