The Mavericks’ Luka Dončić was eliminated by the Pelicans with a bruised right heel

Mavericks star Luka Dončić was ruled out of Dallas’ game against the Pelicans on Thursday after sustaining a bruised right heel in the third quarter. Here’s what you need to know:

• The injury came just over seven minutes from time in the third quarter when Dončić fell heavily onto the court after a dunk jump. He tried to stay in the game but went to the dressing room shortly after.
• Dončić recorded 31 points, eight rebounds and four assists on Thursday before the injury.
• He sprained his left ankle in the first quarter of Dallas’ 99-95 win over the Phoenix Suns on Jan. 26, but returned and scored 53 points in a win over the Detroit Pistons on Monday.
• Dallas is 27-25 and sits fifth in the Western Conference.
