Officials have identified the woman accused of hitting the 46-year-old MP with her car as 25-year-old Kennedi Armstrong Williams.

Houston Police Department Vehicle Crime Division Sgt. G. Clark and Officer D. Nguyen reported that the deputy was in uniform directing traffic at the Mesa Drive intersection at Tidwell Road when a white Dodge Challenger attempted to drive into the Mesa turn off the road.

The deputy instructed Williams to stop so she could guide cross traffic through the intersection. After initially stopping, Williams disobeyed orders and walked across the intersection, punching the deputy, throwing her to the ground and dragging her several feet, police said. Williams then fled the scene.

Paramedics transported the lawmaker to a local hospital for a possible severed shoulder, bruises and road rash injuries.

The MP was able to provide the vehicle’s number plate to responding officers. Officers checked a nearby apartment linked to the registered vehicle and neither the driver nor the vehicle were found.

On Thursday, HPD Northeast Patrol Division Tactical Team officers arrested Williams without incident.
