Long Beach once again becomes the center of fashion music fans when ComplexCon returns to the Long Beach Convention Center.
The event, which will take place on November 19-20, is organized by Complex, an online magazine and media company covering pop culture, music, sports and sneaker culture with a focus on hip-hop music and culture.
ComplexCon is a hybrid of a state-of-the-art mall and hip-hop festival, where guests can shop for shoes, clothing, hats and other fashion items, with a live concert at the end of the weekend.
The event, which first kicked off in Long Beach in 2016, returned to an in-person experience last year after hosting a virtual ComplexCon in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Here’s what you need to know before attending ComplexCon this weekend.
ComplexCon is where people come to find out what’s next in fashion. Dozens of pop-up stores have lined up for the weekend, selling their latest products and special collaborations. Fans can also expect surprise drops with items that have not yet been revealed to the public. According to the ComplexCon website, some of the retailers will be there this year: Nike, Human Made, Awake NY, Victor Victor, Billionaire Boys Club, Converse and Crocs.
There could also be some fashion debate at Saturday’s Sneaker of the Year panel, when sneaker heads like DJ Clark Kent join rappers Jadakiss and Jim Jones and others to discuss their picks for the best sneaker of 2022. ComplexCon usually also attracts fashion-forward celebs. In recent years artists like Offset, Rihanna, Vince Staples and Wiz Khalifa have been spotted shopping at the convention.
ComplexCon is about offbeat music as much as fashion, and in the past the likes of A$AP Rocky, NERD, trap music pioneer Gucci Mane, MIA and Young Thug have headlined Sunday nights.
This year, Sunday night’s headlining spot belongs to Japanese fashion designer Nigo, who will be performing his second studio album, I Know Nigo. The album is full of collaborations and his performance is scheduled with several guests including Pusha T, Kodak Black, Teriyaki Boys, The Slump God and a few surprises. The album also features collaborations with Pharrell, Tyler the Creator, A$AP Rocky and several others.
Unlike previous conventions, the Sunday concert is a separate ticketed event and is not included with general admission or two-day passes to ComplexCon.
How to continue
ComplexCon will be held on November 19th and 20th at the Long Beach Convention Center at 300 E. Ocean Boulevard. Hours of operation are 11am-7pm for general admission and 9am-7pm for VIP. Day tickets are $90; Two-day general admission tickets are $150; and VIP passes are $600, which includes the Sunday concert. Additional tickets for Sunday’s Nigo show cost $5 to $15.
