The funeral for the KDPS officer who died of cancer was held on Friday

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) – Greater Kalamazoo and surrounding communities are gathering to celebrate the life of a Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety official who died earlier this month.
Christian Smith died on October 8 after a battle with leukemia. The 32-year-old served with the KDPS for six years as a police officer, firefighter, field training officer, K-9 unit and narcotics officer. Before beginning his law enforcement career, he served in the US Marine Corps.



His funeral was scheduled for Friday at 11 a.m. at the Valley Family Church on Vincent Ave. 2500 start.
KDPS says so records department will be closed Friday to allow staff to attend Smith’s funeral.
