After years of developmental difficulties, delays and irrational behaviors by its main character, The Lightning finally saw the light of day in its debut trailer at Super Bowl 2023
As the film’s first poster initially hinted at on Friday, fans of Michael Keaton’s Batman movies of the ’80s and ’90s are in for a treat with Barry Allen’s solo film, in which the world’s fastest man’s multiverse hopping adventure heads straight in all the right directions nostalgic buttons. We also found out that there will be multiple Bat-Men while Man of Steel’s General Zod is poised to make a comeback – so that’s exciting.
The trailer has plenty of juicy hints to chew on, like The Lightning will help shape the future of the DC Universe under the leadership of James Gunn and Peter Safran, and it’s looking increasingly likely that nothing will be the same after Andrés Muschietti’s film.
While many fans are expecting this to be “the” reboot movie, James Gunn has previously confirmed that won’t be entirely the case. However, with Barry Allen seemingly turning the entire multiverse upside down in his quest to save his family, we can’t be sure.
Still, it’ll be interesting to see how the hype surrounding Michael Keaton and all the returning DC faces balances the ongoing controversy surrounding Ezra Miller.
The Lightning Speeds to theaters on June 16, 2023.
