The first round of leaf collection was extended by one day in the districts on the north side

FORT WAYNE, Indiana (WANE) — Fort Wayne Street Department employees will be working in North Side neighborhoods on Friday, November 11 and Saturday, November 12 as they still have a large volume of leaves to pick up.

To keep residents informed of schedule changes, Leaf Collection updates will be posted daily before 3:00 p.m. at The daily updates include which neighborhood the teams will be working in the next day. A collection map and guidelines for the process are also on the website. Additionally, residents have the option to call 260-427-2603 to hear recorded daily updates.

Residents are asked to rake leaves up to the curb or parking lane in front of their home, but not on the street. Leaves should be in the pickup area by 7:00 a.m. Monday during the pickup week.

Collection Policy

  • Bring the sheets to the parking strip by 7:00 a.m. on the first day of the week when crews are near you.
  • Do not throw leaves in your garbage or recycling truck.
  • Don’t burn leaves. It is a violation of city ordinances and may result in a fine.
  • Don’t put leaves on the street.
  • Don’t put leaves in or over drains.
  • Parents should remind children not to play in piles of leaves near the road for safety reasons and to help motorists.

Those who want the flexibility to have leaves collected at will can use the biodegradable bag system. Residents with bagged leaves are asked to call 311 to arrange a pickup. Bags must be left at the curb before calling 311. Collection of the bagged leaves will continue until the end of 2022, weather permitting.
