HOUSTON (KIAH) — Police are investigating a drowning incident involving a young boy in a bathtub at a home in southwest Houston Saturday night.
Rescue workers were dispatched to a drowning call at the home after the 9-year-old was found unresponsive in a bathtub by his grandfather. The boy is said to have just showered at this point.
Police found the grandfather who performed CPR on the boy, who was then taken to Texas Children’s Hospital.
According to the authorities, the boy was pronounced dead a short time later. Police have not released any further information but say the boy’s death is still under investigation.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional death in children ages 1 to 14. Children can drown in just a few inches of water, says nonprofit organization Stop Drowning Now.
