The Allen County Department of Health approves the reopening of the Golden Corral after the restaurant closed due to roaches

FORT WAYNE, Indiana (WANE) — The Allen County (DOH) Department of Health and Human Services has reopened the Golden Corral in Fort Wayne on Lima Road after it was briefly closed Tuesday after roaches were found in several areas of the restaurant, according to DOH documents became.

The DOH said it received a complaint Monday relating to Golden Corral, saying, “A cockroach crawled out of her salad on her plate.”

DOH documents say that during the inspection, a health inspector observed two “live, free” cockroaches in the pizza buffet area, one behind the restaurant’s freezer and one on the wall near a prep pool at the end of a buffet line.

The health inspector also observed a dead roach on the floor under the prep sink and a trapped roach under the main buffet line, according to DOH documents.

Documents show the inspector observed receipts from Orkin, a pest control service, showing they provided services at the restaurant on September 15 and 26. 26

DOH documents say Orkin’s Sept. 26 receipt said the company “treated baseboards and placed bait in areas with active roach infestations.”

The documents also state that a responsible person was unaware of the recent complaint and has not had any similar complaints recently.

As a result of the inspection, the DOH closed the Golden Corral until the restaurant completed a to-do list that allowed the business to seek a follow-up inspection and apply to reopen.

After a follow-up inspection, the DOH allowed the Golden Corral to reopen on Tuesday evening.

The DOH also received a complaint about roaches in the Golden Corral in April, but no disciplinary action was taken because no roaches were seen during the inspection.
